Corsa allowed a moment of frustration as sensors continued to show a formidable network of orbital stations sat idle, but shook it off. No sense wishing for what they couldn't have.

He turned to the captain after reviewing sensor data.

"The station nearby does have an operational disruptor cannon, not enough on its own, but if it hit one of the weaker corvettes...

The Looshan's all but captured anyways, whatever we do, we need to get over there"

Arthur nodded, "Do what you can, any more guns with us are welcome!"

Turning this head behind him to the XO's station

"Master Williams, I believe those Boarding Parties we were planning are of use to us now! Make preparations"

((OOC: At the moment, the Fearless isn't moving much at all. She came out of warp with enough actual velocity to maintain orbit, but beyond that she's pretty much at a dead stop. She has turned to starboard, but not engaged any velocity.

Sublight engagements in Trek take place at a variety of speeds, from a near standstill to Full Impulse (0.25c), and occasionally even greater. The four corvettes attacking the Fearless have a significant maneuvering advantage. The Fearless has a higher maximum speed and can sustain it for longer, because she has more power to put into her impulse engines and nav deflectors, and they're bigger, more durable pieces of equipment, but the corvettes have an acceleration advantage. Given the nature of Trek impulse tech at this time period, however, those differences (long distance vs sprinting) are not significant until Full Impulse is exceeded, and probably won't be much of a factor in this particular fight (all ships involved can reach Full Impulse in a matter of seconds).

At higher impulse speeds, engagements tend to become a series of fly-by passes, because unless a ship strives to stay in a particular area (which can be hard to do at high impulse), ships can move in and out of phaser range in a matter of seconds. At Full Impulse, two ships engaged in a head-on pass will be in and out of maximum phaser range (200,000 km) in 2.67 seconds (torpedoes have effective ranges out to 4-8 million km, depending on the warhead, but are less effective against shields). After the initial engagement, head-on passes tend to be less common, as all combatants are generally maneuvering to maximize their own firing windows while minimizing the enemy's, etc., but high-impulse battles tend to be on-off-on-off engagements with ships weaving in and out of phaser range, characterized by a few seconds of heavy exchanges of fire followed by a few seconds or more of stand-off maneuvering. Slower engagements can be more of a sustained brawl, and firing windows across the board tend to be larger, though as always the exact nature of the fight depends on both combatants.

The Fearless herself is better suited to the brawl type of fight. She has strong shields with significant shield reserves, and by nature, her weapons are more effective with larger firing windows. The corvettes, on the other hand, are built for hit-and-dodge harassment, dumping considerable fire into a target in a short window, then breaking away before they can sustain significant return fire themselves. Speed and maneuvering are always important, and sitting still in a fight is almost never a good thing to do, but the Fearless wasn't designed for high-speed fly-by engagements, and while she can hold her own in those kinds of fights, it will disadvantage her more than her current opponents.))

"Increase to Three-Quarters Impulse, aye," the helmsman repeated back, sending the Fearless accelerating toward one set of her attackers at 3,000 km/s^2. Her phasers stabbed out again, each turret pair firing twice as the Fearless and her opponents accelerated. The phaser beams splashed against both the Hideki and the Attack Ship's shields, but to less effect, the beams scoring more glancing blows, more easily deflected, than direct hits, and several beams scoring only partial hits, some of their energy wasted into the void. Torpedo tubes 3 and 4 each spat out a single photon torpedo in rapid succession, followed moments later by a quantum torpedo from tubes 1 and 2. The four torpedoes tracked towards the enemy formation, the two photon torpedoes detonating ten kilometers ahead of the corvettes, each directing their gravitationally-shaped charges at a separate target. They were followed a fraction of a second later by the two quantum torpedoes.

The Fearless rocked again as the trailing corvettes hammered her stern, dumping another salvo of torpedoes into her shields. The Fearless' aft and lateral phasers returned fire, but the corvettes broke away, dropping out of phaser range before taking significant fire.

"Shields at eighty-three percent," Jaklan reported, his tone under control but still nervous.

As the Fearless' impulse engines carried her forwards, Formik watched the pursuing and fleeing enemies respectively as the big starship's phasers were deflected with little affect against the smaller craft. His brain tail twitched as he scanned the tactical screen. If they could get the disruptor on the station turned against the enemy then it would be one more thing for their opponents to concern themselves with, taking some of hte pressure off of the Fearless.

"Continue your firing patterns." he ordered his tactical team. "Adjust torpedo targeting parameters on those forward ships, concentrate on one target at a time. Keep our rear and lateral weapons firing on those pursuing ships, as much as possible, keep them from obtaining an effective firing solution on us."

As the Fearless accelerated clear of the moon, the four corvettes harassing her regrouped and came in on a lateral run, the two weakened corvettes trailing significantly to the rear. As the corvettes charged in, firing phasers and polaron beams only, barely rocking the ship.

"Shields holding at eighty-one percent," Lt. Jaklan reported, seeming to have largely regained control of his nerves.

The Fearless' fire controllers sallied back with a fierce barrage of phaser beams, stabbing golden beam after humming, golden beam from her full broadside at the leading Attack Ship. They managed to score several direct and glancing hits despite the Dominion-built warship's slim profile and hard jinking and juking, and followed up by swinging the #2 torpedo tube to the full extent of its 90-degree pivot range and firing a salvo of three Quantum torpedoes in rapid succession.

The Attack ship managed to evade the first torpedo, but dodged directly into the second torpedo, and staggering from that direct hit and the fierce volley of phaser fire only barely managed to evade the third torpedo, which detonated in a proximity strike at a distance of half a kilometer when its targeting system determined that it would not score a direct hit. Swapping generators with shield reserves at 20%, and trailing a light cloud of plasma from the starboard nacelle, the bugship healed away, breaking off the attack, as the other leading Hideki moved to cover it, and the entire formation dodged out of phaser range.

As the Fearless crested the moon's horizon, the Fenny's Delight snapped her shields up and pulled away from the crippled Looshan, accelerating towards the Fearless. She fired her main gun twice, rocking the Fearless, her deck lurching hard with each strike, forcing many of the bridge crew to brace against their consoles to avoid being slammed into them. "Shields at sixty-one percent!" Lt. Jaklan cried, all sense of composer that he had regained lost. "Hull damage on Decks Six and Seven, and Decks Eighteen and Nineteen! Structural Integrity at ninety-seven percent!"

Corsa remained far more calm and collected than Lt. Jaklan. In fact, Jaklan was quickly becoming the most agitating part of the situation. As the young lieutenant's shrieked cries carried across the bridge, Corsa began to wince, his ears pinning back as he glanced over in momentary disbelief. He didn't figure these pirates would stick around, he knew they had no interest in attracting the ire of Starfleet, and hysterics on the bridge weren't helping anyways. After a quick moment he turned back to his station and attended to his work.

As the sensor picture cleared up, he noted the condition of the Looshan and a change in her cargo with urgency, if not surprise.

"Captain, The Looshan and her crew are intact, but I'm no longer detecting any of her cargo onboard. That damned pirate ship easily matches our defenses, but I can't get a good reading on her weapons yet" he said, attempting to penetrate the Fenny's Delight's jamming with a multiphasic scan.
